Can polygamy really work?

Can polygamy really work in a home?  One woman is not only agreeing with it in theory, but also encouraging her husband to practice it.

http://www.wwrn.org/article.php?idd=18458&con=57&sec=40

Did you know:

Some say polygamy benefits women - http://www.polygamy.com/Practical/index.htm
It's said that the Bible does not condemn polygamy ( I'll research this one later)

Some Christians even practice polygamy - http://www.christianpolygamy.info/

Islam has stipulations attached to polygamy to make it fair to women (I'll research this one later too)

The ACLU supports polygamy - http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=44977

An interesting thought:  Why is it illegal for a man to marry a second woman, but legal for him to sleep with her?

I'll try and scour the web for the experiences of real men and women who have tried the "polygamous life."

Anyone have any thoughts to add?

The Old Testament does not have much to say about the practice itself, but does not forbid it, as many of the patriarchs and kings had multiple wives. The New Testament, while never *explicitly* condemns it, is nonetheless vehemently against it in tone and word. Those Christians who practice polygamy justify their practices using the Old Testament, conveniently forgetting that the New Law supercedes the Old.

A Muslim male (according to the Qu'ran) may marry up to four women provided he treats them all equally. The 'fairness' qualifier was put in there to try and discourage the practice.

Sorry, the religion teacher part of me manifested itself on the weekend when it is supposed to be hidden.
