Is Islam Compatible with the West?

Today the BBC News ran an interesting article about the culture clash between the values of traditional Islam and the culture of western nations. 

To me, it seems that the clash will either "Make or Break" the faith of Muslim youth growing up in the rest. You can see the article for yourself at:

It looks like the BBC will also be airing some documentaries in the near future about this topic... it's one of the few times I actually wish I could see the broadcasting from the UK!

I don't think the traditional Islamic ideas of dar al-Islam and dhimmitude can *ever* be fitted with western culture and values. Part of what we have always taken for granted is some kind of a plurality in ideas and so forth, and for the most part, religion and state are relatively separated. Shar'ia (Islamic law) denotes Islam as *the* state, ergo, unless you share in that, you will be considered a second class citizen.

The BBC has always done great work and the best way to get news and programs from them is to listen to the short wave 24/7 service.
